Dear Poole Resident
I would be grateful for two minutes of your time in order that I may explain why I am standing for Parliament to represent Poole.
I have lived in Poole for my entire adult life. I have run my own businesses in Poole, my two children were born at Poole Hospital and are being educated in a local school. I have played cricket in Poole Park for the Towns' cricket club for 19 years.
I believe it is important for a town to be represented by a local person. I have been elected twice by the residents of Branksome to serve as their local councillor and have endeavoured to serve with honesty and integrity. I have led and been involved in many campaigns important to the people of Poole over the past seven years including opposing winter car parking charges at Poole's beaches, The Solar Pyramid at Baiter, the saga of the portakabins at Whitecliff and the proposed football stadium on public open space at Branksome Rec.
Most people have been rightly appalled by the actions of many sitting MPs in their excessive claiming of expenses from the taxpayer. I promise that if I am elected by the people of Poole as their MP, it will be my only paid job, I will continue to live in Poole and I will never claim expenses relating to my own residence in Poole. Further I will never employ any members of my own family. All appointments will be made based solely upon an individual's ability to do the job. I have not claimed any expenses from the Borough of Poole for the past five years in connection with my role as a local councillor.
The Liberal Democrats exist to fight for fairness, freedom and honesty. For example, we will increase the annual tax-free allowance to £10,000 taking 4 million people out of the tax system altogether, we oppose the introduction of compulsory I.D. cards, and we have been consistent in our opposition to the Iraq war.
We believe in being available to our constituents, being active in our constituencies and dealing promptly and efficiently with our constituents' problems. It is only when you have a Liberal Democrat MP that you can see the difference in the way your issues are listened to and acted upon. Many of your friends, relatives and colleagues will have experienced this over the past 9 years with Annette Brooke as their MP in North Poole.
I hope you will give me your support to be elected as Poole's second Liberal Democrat MP at the forthcoming General Election.
Yours sincerely
Councillor Philip Eades
Liberal Democrat Prospective MP 2010
