Local resident Josephine (Jo) Clements has been chosen as the Liberal Democrat candidate in the Newtown by-election on Sept 9th following the resignation of Mike Plummer. 'We are indebted to Mike for his 14 years service as a councillor and it would be a real privilege to take over from him' says Jo. 'Local people often tell me that he helped them to oppose unsuitable planning applications and how he led parents on a march to the Civic Centre when Sylvan school was under threat of closure. He will be a difficult act to follow but I am determined to take that on.'
Before taking up her current job with Bourne Leisure, Jo spent 5 ½ years running the Mayor's Office in Poole so she is familiar with the workings of the Council. She wants to use that knowledge and her other skills to help local people. Married, with two teenage children, she has been a school Parent Governor and also Clerk to a Governing Body. Voluntary work led to a degree in Social Science and further training in counselling and various business subjects.
Brian Clements (not related to Jo) and Graham Wilson say 'Jo is an ideal person to complete our team, we know we will all work together for local people.'
